Some simple troubleshooting steps will quickly get Words spelling and grammar-checking tool back up and running. If you change that from 0 to anything, you get the gray box. While Words spell check works well most of the time, sometimes it can appear to stop operating. etc. It appears to have something to do with mtext width because if you right click on the gray box at the leader tail or the two double arrows above it, you get an option for "mtext width". Grammar and spell check is the most useful feature of Microsoft word, almost all people use grammar and spell check while writing in MS word, but sometime it will not work properly, because of any reason like language change, turned off spell check etc.
If however you simply click on the small gray line at the tail of the leader, it will then engulf the text, put the ruler above, and the pop-up spell options appear. The gray box stays as a thin line at the tail of the leader and, in this one situation, the pop up spell correct options do not appear.
If I create a new multileader in 2015, the gray box and the ruler do not automatically engulf the text. If I double click on a multileader that was created in 2013, I get the same gray box around the text and it works fine. All of my mtext (whether it be new in 2015 or previously created in 2013) has that gray box around it with the ruler on top whenever I edit it. The problem it turns out does not happen in the text editor for mtext, it only seems to happen on newly created 2015 multileaders. Or, select Options for “Grammar” or Options for “Punctuation Conventions” to reopen the Grammar Settings dialog box.I seem to have solved this one in case anyone has the same problem.
